Armstrong is seeking a dynamic Materials Manager to lead and coordinate our buyers and planners. This role is pivotal in ensuring seamless material procurement to support production and meet customer delivery requirements. The Materials Manager will oversee corporate inventory policies, manage inventory value, and handle all purchasing and planning ERP transactions and setups.
Key Responsibilities:
Main Job Accountability:
- Select suppliers, assess their capabilities, and maintain documented supplier relationships.
- Monitor and manage supplier on-time deliveries, including intercompany suppliers.
- Recommend major material purchases based on anticipated changes in price or delivery terms.
- Analyze and address daily purchase price variances (PPV), identifying causes and proposing solutions.
- Collaborate closely with the operations team for planning and to manage the daily release of materials to the production floor.
- Maintain supplier records in the ERP database and resolve supplier-related issues promptly.
- Collaborate with suppliers on quality, delivery, and quantity matters.
- Administer and ensure compliance with quality assurance (ISO) procedures for purchasing and planning functions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor and optimize inventory investment to align with corporate goals.
- Evaluate inventory items for obsolescence and recommend appropriate actions.
Additional Job Accountabilities:
- Visit supplier facilities to enhance operational knowledge.
- Approve purchase contracts and purchases exceeding $5,000.
- Support the development and implementation of new products and processes.
- Establish planning dates in accordance with inventory policies.
What We’re Looking For
To thrive in this role, you should bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent experience in purchasing/production management.
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in purchasing or materials management.
- Software Requirements- Proficient in PC applications and ERP systems (complex engineered product demand plan, factory plan)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a transparent and authentic communication style.
- Strong interpersonal and persuasive abilities.
- Team-oriented leadership skills with a proactive approach to achieving results.
- Self-directed and able to work autonomously while fostering collaboration.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with experience in conflict management within centralized and matrix organizational structures.
- Ability to analyze complex problems, conduct root cause analysis, and provide clear, well-founded recommendations.
