The Fire System Application Engineer will provide customer training, sales support and applications engineering. They interact with our own sales team, Third Party Fire Representatives and Contractors both on-site and remotely. They will support field-related training initiatives pertaining to fire pumps, packages & control, start-up and commissioning, field support for Armstrong fire products, proposal creation when value proposition is required and joint VP delivery with the sales team .
This position supports the east coast of the USA, with regular travel (Est. 50%) nationally.
In addition to annual initiatives, the key accountabilities of this position are:
Sales and Applications
- Evaluation of Customer enquiries, understanding of P&I drawings, to evaluate design & application intent, determine best product fit to ensure compliance using Armstrong products/solutions.
- Work closely with sales management & field sales to ensure early engagement of design, applications, commissioning and training dialogue at key points of influence in the Customer buying process, as per the Armstrong Sales process & best practice.
- Review specifications and supplied bills of material for accuracy on retrofit and service opportunities prior to sending to contractor or engineer.
- Support of follow up proposals with external sales teams. On more complex project opportunities, as designated & agreed with sales leadership, participate in customer dialogue as part of solution development, tender clarification process, benefit articulation & ultimately assisting in securing business.
- Select appropriate product (s) and develop the proposal from ‘base’ level (s) utilising company product selection tools.
- Arrange and participate in Project and peer reviews at key points as identified by the needs of the proposal and the sales process.
Training and Commissioning
- Training of Commissioning, Service and Installation teams at contracting firms as required by NFPA 20.
- Onsite training of new Sprinkler Contractors, where required within their office or at the location of Fire pump commissioning.
- Perform Smart Start Up of all DE Fire Pumps
- Deliver Armstrong Fluid Technology approved curriculum during group training sessions for factory certification.
- Develop and refine required NFPA training in accordance with code changes.
- At training partner locations in Michigan, New Jersey and Dallas.
- Hands-On commissioning and Field Service activity for start-up and commissioning of Armstrong fire equipment with Control Panels in conjunction with Installing contractor.
- Manage local Armstrong Service Providers for Subcontractor start up and service.
- Provide On-Site Operator training on our equipment offerings after customer acceptance in conjunction with Installing contractor.
What We’re Looking For
To thrive in this role, you should bring:
- College degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering/Technologist or Applied Engineering diploma or a related education with comparable field / work experience is desired.
- 5 or more years experience working with engineering, manufacturing, service, and distribution operations in a fire life safety environment.
- Understanding of Fire Pump Curves, thermo-hydraulic technical knowledge and preferably work experience.
- Knowledge of NFPA regulations and testing requirements by jurisdiction.
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment along with a familiarity with internet and communication protocols, and a strong commitment to customer service.
- Strong English oral and written communication skills. Ability to think clearly and logically, analyze quantitatively, problem solve and define technical requirements.
- Ability to establish objectives, handle multiple tasks, prioritize work, and drive results.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in MS Office and strong software skills. Ability to learn new programs (business software).
- Creative problem-solving skills, conflict management within different
- organizations (centralized and matrix organizational structures).
- Ability to break down complex problems in a simplified way, conduct root cause analysis and provide clear, well thought-out recommendations.
- Strong, team-oriented leadership skills with presence and a bias for action.
- Self-directed with ability to work autonomously and collaboratively and a focus on results.
- Ability to communicate in an open and authentic manner in all situations.
- Experience / Involvement with the commercial construction marketplace is desirable. Identify and report on product deficiencies identified through service activities.
- Recommend parts and services as part of normal daily interaction with contracting community.
