The Senior Manager, Human Resources Canada, provides a broad range of HR leadership and support to our over 450 office and factory employees located in primarily in Ontario and throughout Canada.

This position is located at 23 Bertrand Ave, Scarborough, ON and would have an on-site requirement 5 days a week.

In addition to annual initiatives, the key accountabilities of this position are:

Strategic Business Partnership

  • Accountable for partnership within assigned client group to help meet HR requirements of these functions/teams.
  • Proactively engage with Leadership Board members, Management and Individual staff across all business units/functions to understand the current state of the business and identify opportunities to increase efficiencies and improvement.
  • Develop strong relationships across employee population and leadership to deeply engage in the business operations and business planning discussions.
  • Advise and partner with the functional and business leaders to organize teams effectively and define the development agenda.

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Lead full-cycle recruitment activity for executive, professional, technical, administrative and production staff
  • Provide an effective onboarding program for new hires, ensuring complete follow-through with our learning management system and the establishment of individual training programs
  • Monitor and action probation periods and various compensation and job changes
  • Conduct HR interviews to ensure culture fit and role fit

HRIS & Benefits Administration

  • Manage and administer the group insurance plan and pension plans for all Canadian employees
  • Manage the renewal process
  • Communicate and educate employees on the plan coverage
  • Coordinate benefit applications with the underwriters for Short Term Disability and Long-Term Disability and ongoing case management
  • Coordinate changes to benefit and retirement plan program participation

Human Resources Program Execution

  • Participate in weekly Global HR Team calls and have some responsibility in roll-out of annual global projects/ initiatives, as assigned.
  • Support the rollout of programs and processes such as performance management, recognition, rewards and training to improve engagement and productivity for local client group.
  • Work with in-house training team and management to create and monitor Individual Development Plans for all staff
  • Update policy documents as needed and link to any revised Employment Standards legislation changes

Employee Relations

  • provide coaching, advice, recommendations and resolutions to ensure hands-on support, guidance and high-quality service on all day-to-day employee relations matters
  • Work with operations management to create and execute recruitment, training and job evaluation on the shop floor
  • Support the local social committee in organization company social engagement events (holiday party, BBQs and other events linked to affiliated charity organizations)

Health, Safety and Environment

  • Participate in Health, Safety and Environmental matters at the facility, including Green Team and Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Ensure full compliance of health and safety local requirements, including prompt WSIB case management and reporting

Role Requirements

  • University Degree or equivalent; HR Diploma and member of HRPA, required
  • 10+ years of HR Management experience working with engineering, manufacturing and distribution employees in an industrial environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HR principles, general practices and HR regulations, policies and procedures
  • Ability to show tact, diplomacy and discretion in handling information of confidential and/or sensitive nature
  • Creative problem-solving skills, conflict management within different organizations (centralized and matrix organizational structures)
  • Ability to break down complex problems in a simplified way, conduct root cause analysis and provide clear, well thought-out recommendations.
  • Strong, team-oriented leadership skills with presence and a bias for action.
  • Self-directed with ability to work autonomously and collaboratively and a focus on results.
  • Ability to communicate in an open and authentic manner in all situations
