The Lead Engineer – Mechanical will lead the mechanical engineering team in India with the support of the wider project team to develop cost-effective and innovative solutions. They will contribute to the design and support, validation, and optimization of high-pressure pumping products and systems. With a focus on the design development and engineering of products for mining and industrial segments.

 

This position is based out of Bangalore, India, with some travel requirements but working closely with the Research & Development and System Engineering teams in the UK. 

In addition to annual initiatives, the key accountabilities of this position are:

Job Description

  • Design and Development
    • Lead design and development activities for high-pressure pump products and systems used in the mining and industrial segments. Ensure adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Provide engineering input including concept design and drawings, bill of materials structures, general arrangement drawings, operating and maintenance manuals, manufacturing drawings, and compilation of technical training programs.
    • Management, reviewing, and preparation of mechanical design deliverables such as hand calculations, FEA, CFD, specification etc.,
    • Undertaking check/review functions and ensuring the quality of deliverables from the engineering team in India.
    • Study the current product portfolio and identify areas for design improvement and usage of new technology, and present them for review and implementation.
    • Perform value engineering for lower cost and improved reliability.
    • Perform Finite Element Analysis, Sustainability, Stack-up analysis, and Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis.
    • Coordinate the Mold Flow and Computational Fluid Dynamics.
    • Work closely with vendors in new product development projects.
  • Product Support and improvement
    • Lead VAVE projects and rationalization of existing products and parts.
    • Work with the system engineering team to create standardized offerings for the mining and industrial segments.
    • Work with the sourcing team to monitor cost reduction targets for the standardized product offerings.
    • Coordinate changes to the global sales and service teams.
    • Participate in weekly cost reduction team meetings.
  • Project Management
    • Project manage all development related project files and manuals.
    • Work with relevant departments to create and monitor project plans for active projects.
    • Participate in weekly project meetings.

Essential Skills/ Requirements

  • BE or BTech in Mechanical Design or in-house training in Design (Mechanical) from a reputable Institute/Organization.
  • Proven level of experience in mechanical design with considerable time spent designing rotating equipment and operating in a mining/industrial environment. Prior experience in leading a small team is desirable.
  • Experience in the design and validation of high-pressure positive displacement plunger pumps and components would be desirable.
  • Experience in modeling and drafting complex crafting within SolidWorks 3D CAD Package.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering skills to design and validate high-pressure pump products.
  • Experience in performing Finite Element Analysis, Sustainability, Stack-up analysis, and Design Failure Mode Effect analysis.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mining industry applications, standards, and product testing up to 1000 bar pressure would be desirable.
  • Experience in IECEx or explosive atmospheres would be desirable.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, and conflict management within different organizations (centralized and matrix organizational structures).
  • Ability to break down complex problems in a simplified way, conduct root cause analysis, and provide clear, well-thought-out recommendations.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively and a focus on results.
  • Support the development of the mechanical engineering team, and provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Ability to communicate openly and authentically in all situations.
  • Strong, team-oriented leadership skills with presence and a bias for action would be desirable.
