Energy Service Engineer

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Global Manger: Performance Management Services, the Energy Service Engineer is responsible for the generation and distribution of reports to customers with plant optimization technology and services from Armstrong.    The position will be in a matrix role inside the Building Services department and will be expected to interact regularly with staff in Bangalore  and to accept specific feedback and direction on customer facing reports.  In turn, they will be encouraged to provide their thoughts on streamlining processes and/or improving the reports and overall customer experience.

The candidate will play a key role in providing ongoing service  to our global customer base of Performance Management customers, including the reporting components of the ECO*PUSLETM HVAC Health Management service, Pump Manager for Connected Products, and/or related diagnostic and analytical services.

Specifically this Engineer will provide:

Customer Specific Report

  • extract data from Armstrong’s plant control systems, Armstrong cloud, and other applicable systems
  • prepare the trend and energy summaries
  • analyze the data and identify anomalies in the plant behaviour
  • prepare recommendations for optimizing the efficiency of the building systems being monitored.

Generic Analytical Support

  • analysis of macro customer or product insights, gleaned from either pump specific or central plant data

This position is expected to grow into an expanded role to include additional technical support and be part of small but growing team with niche expertise in remote diagnostics and building analytics for a wider suite of Armstrong products.

The individual(s) must apply his/her proven ability to understand central plant HVAC systems, process large amounts of data and identify root cause(s) of issues.

The successful candidate will ultimately work with both internal and external customers so an excellent customer service attitude is a bona fide requirement.  The successful candidate will strive for continuous improvement in both customer satisfaction and in technical capability.

The person will take day to day guidance from the Global Manager, but will work closely with the Building Services team in Bangalore in delivering timely and consistent reporting and diagnostic insight to our global customer base.

Essential Functions:

The following is a non-exhaustive list of tasks and activities that the person will perform and deliver.

Tracking and Reporting:

  • Remotely extract data from existing monitoring systems and/or other applicable systems
  • Clean and parse data (as necessary)
  • Identify data gaps and conduct a ‘reality check’ on consumption
  • Summarize the performance of all sites in a weekly report
  • On a scheduled basis (quarterly for each customer) the individual will rotate through the list of customers and provide a more detailed review and written report that will include:

    • A thorough and critical review all other data points collected from the building equipment
    • Trends and consumption in equipment run times and overall efficiencies
    • A short list of recommendations for further review and analysis
    • Recommended cost effective operational changes that flow out of the data, suggestions might include: equipment scheduling, modified supply set-points and/or physical equipment maintenance
    • Periodically answer or explain the nuances of particular recommendations to the end user
  • Track and book hours to specific customers for tracking of the “cost to serve” by individual customer/ accounts and for cost tracking of the overall Service category
  • Participate in regular Lync (Skype style) meetings with members of the Building Services team in Bangalore

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Report any customer feedback for continuous customer serving improvement
  • Support special projects as assigned
  • Report on various other activities and present to internal stakeholders as required

Education:

  • University or College degree in a mechanical or building systems or other degree/diploma with applicable industry experience.
  • Big Data analytics, statistical theory, and or Data Science background is a plus.

Experience Background:

  • Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in the HVAC industry, or pump related industry with HVAC product knowledge
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Must have strong Excel skills and be familiar with the broader suite of MS Office
  • Knowledge of one or more programming languages would be an asset
  • It is essential to be effectively manipulate and analyze large volumes of data
  • Strong customer service disposition is mandatory
  • Able to cope with multiple and sometime conflicting deadlines
  • Able to work independently but is also an excellent team player
  • Strong presentation skills would be an asset
  • Fluency in other languages would be beneficial with particular value placed on French or Spanish

Process and Manufacturing Engineer

Job Summary:

Responsible for: 

  1. Develop and implementation of assembly process: Material flow, lean principles, assembly and test cells concepts
  2. Improving the product design and quality to satisfy the Customer requirements.
  3. Improving the quality & control of SAA drawings and engineering documents.
  4. Improving the productivity, manufacturing processes, and service of SAA products.
  5. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager

Essential Functions:

  1. Management of industrial / manufacturing engineering projects for process improvement including manufacturing, assembly, testing to improve productivity and reduce cost.
  2. Investigating and implementing product improvements that impact quality, productivity and service.
  3. Daily operations, solve production problems: including technical, material, routings, manufacturing processes and engineering.
  4. Daily support for QA & manufacturing including disposition & reporting of NCNs.
  5. Trouble shoot and conduct root cause analysis for manufacturing issues and implement corrective action plans to prevent the recurrence.
  6. Review and approval of sourced parts, drawings & inspection reports.
  7. Review and approval of first article inspection reports for parts machined in-house.
  8. Facilitating the processing of engineering action requests, changed drawings, preparing and distributing Engineering Change Orders.
  9. Review Production standards and ensure timely updates within Armstrong’s ERP (BAAN /INFOR LN) systems.
  10. Identify and proactively raise organizational issues and trends; recommend alternatives for improved effectiveness.
  11. Initiate manufacturing process continuous improvement and Kaizen activities
  12. Responding to Customer’s and Warranty inquiries. Analyzing failures and executing corrective action plan.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Performs other Engineering duties as assigned.
  2. Work with internal company departments and external suppliers/customers to ensure a productive business is maintained.
  3. Responsible for care of variety of materials and experimental products.

Education & Qualifications:

  1. University or college degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering.
  2. Could be registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario (PEO).

Experience Background:

  1. Excellent knowledge of lean manufacturing, material flow, assembly processes and layouts
  2. 5 year’s related engineering experience.
  3. Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  4. Experience in working with an ERP (Such as Bann /INFOR LN ) for Bill of materials ,Routings ,Configuration follow up  Knowledge on ERP implementation experience ( Baan /INFOR LN )
  5. High level of proficiency utilizing Solidworks
  6. Computer literate.

Quality Inspector ( Incoming Inspection /RG’S )

Job Summary:

The incumbent inspects (in-coming, in-process and outgoing ) materials  and products such as castings ,machined parts ,Assemblies for conformance to specifications. Inspects products by using Visual means and inspection equipment ( micrometers, height gauges, CMM, dial calipers etc )

Essential Functions:

  1. Responsible for conducting incoming inspection of supplier parts to ensure compliance.
  2. Responsible for conducting final inspection of parts.
  3. Conducts in-process spot checks of parts and area surveillance for conformance with procedures.
  4. Responsible for maintenance of all inspection records.
  5. Conducts inspections relevant to customer service warranty issues.
  6. Conducts inspections to support Engineering development parts.
  7. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings .

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Participates at Flip Chart Daily production Meetings.
  2. Daily auditing of QC review area /Shipping doc.
  3. Aids in daily nonconformance (NCN) review including:

Global Operations Manager - Service

This position will report directly to the Global Director of Service, the primary responsibility of this position is to establish, develop, and optimize Armstrong Fluid Technology’s global service operations and systems to ensure the Best in Class customer experience.

 

The right candidate must be a strategic thinker, good communicator and possess the ability to inspire and lead cross functional teams including: manufacturing, customer support, product development, finance, marketing and sales. This person will have strong leadership, teamwork, analytical and communication skills plus a demonstrated track record of customer advocacy and success in Building Energy  

Key Accountabilities:

  • Direct responsibility for Canadian Service operations and dotted line responsibility for other countries
  • Develop, orchestrate and implement consistent global service systems around (CRM, ERP, Asset Management, Centralized reporting, Contract Entitlement/SLA management etc.)
  • Build and manage Global Performance Management team and infrastructure
  • Define and implement consistent methodology, workflows, best practices and KPIs for service execution in regions/countries. This includes new and existing service offers
  • Participate in New Product Development initiatives and lead service delivery strategy for all new products
  • Lead global installed base tracking initiative in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders (channel partners).
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Product Management, IT, Operations etc.) to ensure that Product Lifecycle data is updated.

  • Lead global Level 2 Technical Support team mandate

Experience

  • Minimum of 5-10 years experience in building and managing HVAC services operations team and infrastructure. Exposure at a global level would be an asset

  • Experience in leading and influencing cross functional team is critical
  • Strong technical knowledge of products and systems in the HVAC industry
  • Knowledge of Asset Management Systems and methodologies is highly desirable
  • Ability to read construction drawings, layouts and electrical, hydraulic schematics.

Education

Engineer – Mechanical Design (Gas Transmission)

Position Summary

This position supports Maintence, NPD and cross functional projects within established standard effort hours and meet quality metrics, Mechanical Design of Components and Sub-Assemblies level for gas fired hot water boilers or steam boilers.

Some Key Responsibilities

  • Compile engineered drawings from sketches and drawings supplied, to develop a vacuum loop gas fired boiler
  • Assemble packages using SolidWorks, working directly in EPDM
  • Able to co-ordinate reverse engineering of components and assign material, tolerances & surface finishes to reverse engineered parts
  • Perform tolerance Stack-up Analysis and assign GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and company standards
  • Apply fundamental calculations (Bending Moment Diagrams, Deflection, Force, Pressure, Stress/Strain, Bearing Life) to optimize parts design
  • Apply standards pertaining to natural gas transmission while designing systems

Qualifications/Requirements

  • BE /B Tech in Mechanical Design from a reputed Institute
  • Implant / Apprenticeship Training in Design (Mechanical) from a reputed Institute/Organization
  • Min. 3 years in engineered products and packages of gas fired hot water boilers / steam boilers
  • He / She should have good understanding of GD & T per ASME Y14.5
  • Hands-on experience in 3D modelling and 2D drafting of engineered products per industry standards using

Engineer – Mechanical Design (R&D)

Position Summary

To work within the overall Engineering Team and to contribute strongly to the design and support of high-pressure pumping products and systems. This job will focus on the design, development and engineering of new pump systems used in the mining and industrial segments.

Some Key Responsibilities

  • To provide engineering input including concept design and drawings, BOM structures, GA drawings, P&ID’s, O&M manuals, manufacturing drawings, PDF construction and compilation of technical training programs.

Engineer – Mechanical Design

Position Summary

The Design Engineer applies proven abilities to the design of BSS projects as part of a multi-disciplined project team and as directed by the Project Manager. A project could consist of: Heat Transfer packages, Pump packages, Boiler plant packages, Chiller and Cooling Tower plant packages and Control Systems. These systems will be taken from concept design or specific customer requirements and delivered using computer aided design technology.

Some Key Responsibilities

  • Understanding project scope and specification,
  • Developing 2D guidance drawings, 3D assemblies, sub-assemblies and details, associated manufacturing drawings, bills of material, calculations, purchase specifications, production information, test information, as-built drawings, etc…
  • Adherence to project milestone review and approval process
  • Adherence to project document control and filing procedures
  • Maintenance of parts library, templates and drawing office standards
  • Coordination of various services in one environment for optimum functionality, cost, buildability, serviceability and end of life.
  • Understanding of design for manufacture and the production of fabrication/shop drafting methods.

Engineer - Controls

Position Summary

As an Engineer in Controls department you will be reporting to the Team Leader and matrixed to the Engineering team in both Toronto the United Kingdom. The Controls Engineer will support Service / Maintenance, New Product Development (NPD) and cross functional projects within established standard effort hours and meet quality metrics.

Some Key Responsibilities

  • PLC/Controller programming on different platforms/tools for Armstrong products based on sequence of operation (SOO) and Flowchart inputs (PLC’s used are CAREL, Tridium, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Allan Bradley). HMI programming on different platforms/tools for Armstrong products with reference screens and guidance.
  • Ability to work on developing the documentation for controls products with guidance –SOO, Flow Charts, I&O and assist the service team in troubleshooting site issues with little guidance.
  • Understand the SOO and develop testing procedure so that it meets all specified requirements.
  • Produce the QC list to make sure the program meets all requirements as per the programing guidelines [editable, reusable, simple etc.]
  • Understand fundamentals of control system design and Automation.
  • Working knowledge of fundamental calculations.
  • Knowledge of Basic Science [SOM, Physics, Maths, Fluid Dynamics, Electromagnetism]
  • Good knowledge on working principle and able to size and select control components like – Motor, VFD, Valves, Sensors, Switch Gears, PLC and HMI.
  • Basic exposure to different standards / certification used in PLC programming, including: Switch gear design, Panel design, instrumentation etc. [UL, FM, CE, IEC, NEMA, CCC, IS], and capability to understand and follow Company / Dept. Standard Operating procedures.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • BE/B-Tech / BSc in Electrical, Electrical and Electronics / Communication from a reputed Institute
  • In plant/Apprenticeship Training in Industry / Building Automation / Process Automation from a reputed Institute/Organization
  • 2 - 4 years’ experience with Min. 2 yr. in PLC and HMI Programming in a reputed Automation / Mfg. Company. HVAC experience is an added advantage.
  • Hands-on experience in PLC and HMI Programming using any of the standard Commercial PLC and HMI. CAREL PLC programming is an added advantage
  • Good understanding of PLC programming standards / best practices and should be capable to debug and test the programs.

Test Engineer – Controls

Position Summary

Reporting to the Team Leader, the Test Engineer will be responsible for the testing, analysis of test results, development and implementation of test standards/procedures and documentation of test results for Armstrong’s controls products. 

Some Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop tests methods, procedures to verify the programmable logic control products against the SOO
  • Modify test procedures to suit new products

Job Summary/Basic Functions

Energy Engineer / Specialist – HVAC Systems USA Chiller Plant Optimization

Job Summary/Basic Functions:

  • Develop market opportunities and organizational capabilities to succeed with ‘energy retrofit’ customer projects that employ Armstrong’s Systems Chiller Plant Optimization, including Controls Systems, HVAC Packaged Systems and Building Services.

  • As a technical expert, the Energy Specialist furthers auditing, assessment, application qualification, operating knowledge and general understanding of chiller plant optimization opportunities, related to the “make market” energy upgrade initiatives.

Specific Duties/Essential Functions:

  • Support and mentoring of the solution set for chiller plant optimization including capital equipment requirements and service contracts to North American vertical market customers
  • Apply methodologies to target/qualify service work, and ROI sales opportunities. 
  • A leader by example with long term project management understanding for the support of strategic sales cycles
  • Utilize optimization processes for energy upgrades, including; site audits, site energy analysis reports, base line auditing, explanation of installation and commissioning work scopes, working with site operators and management to assess customer fit, providing technical explanation of the functionality of the Armstrong solutions, convey the financial cost benefit articulations, and understand and research technical aspects of the chiller plant optimization opportunities.
  • Teamwork on customer project proposals and participation in strategic internal and customer events, meetings and tradeshows.

  • Support project management team with customer project order related issues when they arise.
  • Supports ongoing process to maintain service plan contracts with end users
